Did you get a pay rise on maternity leave? (UK)

Just that really - I've heard pay rises are supposed to be protected, and I usually get one every year. They have yearly review's (which I will obviously miss due to maternity leave) and pay is increased subsequently. If I usually get a yearly pay rise, will I get one while I'm off? Or can they say im not entitled to one this year?

Anyone had any experience with this?

I didn't have one on either mat leave and was told it would be reviewed. Which it never was. I left shortly after returning from he last mat leave and am now earning around 40% than I was previously

I got the annual pay rise as normal on both of my maternity leaves (one as recently as this year)

I got a pay rise both times I had mat leave, they can’t try any BS like apportioning it because you’ve been away from the office for 3/4 of the year either.

Got mine. But everyone gets it. Not performance related

I got an inflation based pay rise but didn’t get a performance based one, as I clearly hadn’t been at work for them to assess my performance. Fair enough really.

Not fair enough - you assume an employees performance is unchanged and reward accordingly.

Thanks all - it's a bit unclear whether it's inflationary or if it's solely performance based. I know not everyone in the company gets one (as they have said this before) but I have got one every year I've worked there. Just concerned that I could one of those who don't get one this year because of mat leave.

After being very underpaid for my role for a long time I finally negotiated a payrise just before I went on mat leave but despite my efforts they refused to apply it until after I returned, a year later. It was very annoying, but when I looked into it at the time I think it was not illegal as not everyone gets automatic payrises each year in my company.

I work in a sales based role and bonuses and performance based pay rises aren’t given to everyone. My Mat pay took into account large bonuses I got in the qualifying period though so I was well paid throughout my leave. As I said, I did get the normal pay rises that everyone in the company gets each year, just not an extra performance based one.
