House sitter using our address for credit.

We bought this house two years ago. Just before we moved in the previous owners let a cleaner/house sitter stay in the house for a couple of weeks. Since then we've been receiving mail for her. At first we just put it back in the post stating on the envelope that she wasn't at this address. The post kept arriving so we contacted all the companies that wrote to let them know she wasn't here. However, we're now receiving demands from debt collectors. The letters are still in her name but it's our address that will be affected. We always ring the debt collectors/bailiffs and return the letters but it's getting to be a real pain.

What can we do to stop this woman using our address? Is this a police matter?

your address is not affected, credit files are for individuals. You can put a note of disassocation on your experian and equifax files if you wish.

Just keep returning them, you don't have to talk to anyone if you don't want to, just put 'not known at this address' on envelopes and put back in post box. Don't open them either.

Thanks for your reply.

I've always thought that an address could be blacklisted so was worried this would happen to us.

Thanks again.

Experian were offering a 30 day free trial for you to see your credit report. We signed up with them after our credit card had been used fraudulently.

We were able to view our files on line to make sure that no-one else was listed on our file as we weren't sure how they had gotten our credit card details as we shred everything.

We then cancelled the trial! No problems and no costs to us.
