Carers allowance income confusion.

Hi all,

I currently claim carers for my son - no issues with that but I’ve just been offered another job! It is better hours and frankly would make my life so much easier (hours wise).

The wage is £700 a month with a company car (role involves several hours of driving a day).

Would I still be eligible to claim carers?

I know it’s due to to increase from the start of April but I’m unsure how it works as I would be earning more per single week than the threshold but over the month it would even out.. and if I get a company car would that lower my income to within the limits?

I don’t want to sound like I’m scrounging 🤦🏼‍♀️ but my current income is £500 a month so with carers I will end up losing money if this role takes me over threshold. It’s all so confusing!

any experts out there? 🙏

By over the month it evens out I mean that if you work out £700 x 12 /52 I’m within the threshold?

The current limit is £151/week. I thought there was a plan to increase it by more than just CPI but I can't find that right now and it might be form 2016.

Your £700*12/52 comes out at £161.54.

Thank you for your reply! It is due to go up to £190 from April I believe?

Yes, I've since seen confirmation of that.
