Hi, I receive universal credit and scottish child payment. I'm considering having my new partner move in at some point - he doesn't receive any benefits and won't really be contributing much to the house financially. Will this effect my benefits? Thanks

I think there should be a dedicated benefits subforum in the general money one.

Benefits are money though. Unless you think the money forum should be "earned money only"?

There are plenty of 'other money' subjects around everything from bank accounts, loans and mortgages etc.

A benefit focussed sub forum with a strictly enforced 'no judgemental comments' policy would be more focussed with a better signal to noise ratio.

Shouldn't all forums be non-judgmental though? I know what you're saying, but I think it's unnecessarily othering.

I did this, been together 4 years and decided to make the move of a 'family unit' worst decision I've made. Was on UC because my son 11 tried to hang himself due to bullying so I had to give up work to 'fix' his mental health. OH earns 30k he used to give me £700. I couldn't pay anything apart from the rent. Got into huge debt with credit cards. In the end I kicked him out. Much better position now. Good luck.

Some people are very harsh, but you really can't judge them for forming an opinion based on the "tiny tiny amount of information" you chose to give- if there is other information that might sway peoples opinions then that is for you to provide it!

I'm with those that say eh? Why wouldn't he be contributing!
