How to get my tax back

I work in a number of zero hours jobs. In 23/24 I did not work very much and did not meet my personal allowance yet was taxed each month as though I would. I am therefore owed some tax back. In previous years when this has happened I have simply received a cheque at some point so never actually had to do anything to receive this. That was always because I didn't know I would get any back and it was a small amount less than £100. This time I believe I am owed around £600. I want to know if there is anything I can do to claim this back quicker than just waiting for hmrc to figure it out.

You can go online to claim it back.

There is now a HMRC app, I accessed mine using my government gateway login. Shows all of your jobs/pensions etc and the tax you have paid. I would start there…

I did this a few days ago. It was really easy (once I'd found my gateway number and faffed around getting the password changed Grin)

You can contact HMRC but they are actually very good at doing this and if you leave it you could expect to receive your refund automatically by June(ish).

Yeah. I'd rather not wait until June. Could really use the money.

I have looked online but it says that I need to wait until I get an 800 letter. Just wondered if there was something else I could do than just wait for this letter. I'll try and log in but I've lost my gateway number.

If you don’t want to do it via the app, ring them. DH has had to claim tax back a few times and they were so helpful, he had a cheque within a few days.

Thanks. I might try ringing them.
