Tesco club card points

Are they more trouble than they are worth?

Many things in life are troublesome. Tesco Clubcard points rarely feature in the top 100.

richardosmanstrousers · 22/02/2025 23:39

In what way are they 'trouble'?

LittleRedRidingHoody · 22/02/2025 23:39

Nothing wrong with just having the app and topping up points as and when you shop. I normally make about £20 a year (which you can then double/triple to use on pizza express and other vouchers)

Hortus · 22/02/2025 23:43

Why would they be any trouble at all? Strange question.
I think they're great. I use them to fully pay for RAC breakdown, membership of the RHS, a Railcard and magazine subscription. I would buy those things anyway so by using the clubcard I save over £330 a year, plus whatever reductions I get on grocery shops on clubcard prices.

Aaron95 · 22/02/2025 23:44

Used to be but now you have to scan a card or else half your trolly doubles in price.

rainbowunicorn · 22/02/2025 23:46

In what way would they be trouble?

WhatFreshHellisThese · 22/02/2025 23:47

Not as good as they used to be. But that's lots of things 🤷‍♀️

ExitPursuedByABare · 22/02/2025 23:48

No trouble at all.

Addeline · 22/02/2025 23:50

Quite useful. We use our points to buy half price rail cards. Or get money off shopping. Way better than any other points scheme I’m on.

RIPVPROG · 22/02/2025 23:52

I've used them for a Eurotunnel crossing, twice. Made those holidays much cheaper. Nothing to lose if you shop in Tesco

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/02/2025 23:53

I use it because

a) I get clubcard savings on prices which is a lot every week
b) I save my points for Christmas and it pays for Christmas dinner for 10

never found it to be any trouble

HMW1906 · 23/02/2025 00:24

Don’t really see why they’d be trouble. Scan your Tesco app when you shop, go on the app when you want to spend them and choose what you want. We’ve used ours for all sorts over the years, days out, towards weekends away, railcards, I even bought my wedding ring using them when Goldsmiths used to be 3x the value of the points.

Redglitter · 23/02/2025 00:26

Theyre brilliant. I completed 2 clubcard challenges in the last quarter. As well as the savings over that quarter I ended up with £90 in clubcard vouchers.

User2123 · 23/02/2025 00:28

They're no trouble to collect and save you money on your shop.

They can sometimes be trouble when you want to spend them. For example some partners require you to book through a special link and the clubcard price can actually be more than if you just booked directly, especially if there's current offers or discount codes which can't be combined with clubcard vouchers. Or some partners say you can't use the vouchers online and have to ring them up to use them which is a faff.

But for most it's very straightforward to use and at double their value they're a good deal. We have used ours on hotels, rail cards, meals out, annual passes for local attractions. Just read all of the fine print and the reviews before converting lots of points and you should be fine.

Viviennemary · 23/02/2025 00:29

They're OK. I dint bother with the silly points for buying this or that. But you get things club card price with your card which is quite good.

garlicyogurt · 23/02/2025 00:29

It’s no effort or trouble, all you have to do is scan a barcode or if you’re doing click and collect/delicery it’s automatic

latetothefisting · 23/02/2025 01:00

Don't understand what about either accruing them or spending them causes "trouble"
It's literally just a flash of the card, takes seconds, I have mine on a mini one with my keys so always to hand anyway and also on my phone.

If it's the spending that's the trouble dont bother with any of the doubling up/activity stuff and just spend it on your shop when it reaches a certain amount - again mine is automatically on my phone so no faffing about with vouchers = a bit of free food/clothes

Bjorkdidit · 23/02/2025 06:59

Unless you shop often enough in Tesco for the points to accumulate to a meaningful amount they seem a bit pointless tbh, no pun intended. But no trouble as such either.

But its still worth having a clubcard (you can save it one of various apps, no need to carry the physical card) as otherwise if you do shop there, you'll be able to pay normal price rather than the inflated 'non clubcard' price.

I shop at Tesco the least, mostly because other supermarkets are nearer, but also because it seems the worst offering, shit quality compared with just about all other supermarkets and more expensive than Aldi, Lidl or Asda.

HotCrossBunplease · 23/02/2025 08:24

The points are just a side benefit of the card these days. The main reason has the Clubcard is to get the Clubcard prices. You’d be mad to shop in Tesco and pay non-Clubcard prices.

(Yes, yes, I know some people don’t like being monitored, I think they are mad to pay such a high price to prevent Tesco knowing how often they buy ketchup).

Pigeonqueen · 23/02/2025 08:28

Eh? How are they trouble? We use them towards pizza express vouchers! They’re great!

IVFmumoftwo · 23/02/2025 09:59

Don't seem to get as many vouchers in the post nowadays!

Pascha · 23/02/2025 10:13

They paid for many days out with my children when they were little. Honestly back when money was a bit tight it made a difference to what we could afford to do in the holidays.

Now I tend to save them for travel discounts and Christmas food shopping. I can't remember them ever being trouble.

Pigeonqueen · 23/02/2025 10:27

IVFmumoftwo · 23/02/2025 09:59

Don't seem to get as many vouchers in the post nowadays!

Download the app and you can see them all on there and covert them into vouchers.

SparklingPinkCat · 24/02/2025 06:49

I choose to save all my Clubcard points up in the Christmas Savings they do. They pay out my vouchers ever November. Last Christmas, my Clubcard points gave me £127 to spend at Christmas.

Not sure how that can be bad, I get points/money for things I'd buy anyway and in saving it up, a lump sum to enjoy every Christmas x

DustyLee123 · 24/02/2025 06:50

I save mine for the Xmas shop. Can’t see what trouble they might bring?
