Cand anyone give me some advice on a speccy problem

Hello, wondering if anyone here can help on my rights...

The bridge of my specs broke the other day and I took them into the optician where i bought them (large chain) and asked if they could be repaired. I was advised that they couldn't be repaired and that the best they could do would be to replace the frame, so I could keep my expensive lenses. I really need my specs so i agreed and - stupidly- paid my £160 upfront.

Anyway I got a message today from the optician saying that my lens has a big chip in it and she had to have my approval before she fitted the frame in case she made it worse!

So what i want to know is what are my rights? Presumably the frame isn't fit for purpose, as she should have checked for chips etc before saying I should get new frames. I just feel sick - its such a lot of dosh. Any advice gratefully received.

Did you notice the chip? surely you would have? Are you worried she chipped it accidentally?

I personally would get my glasses back and go elsewhere cos I think that's an insane amount of money. I think glasses direct are about 50% than everywhere (online)

surely the glasses would have been inspected originally?

my dh has a pair of prescription sunglasses from boots that he adores every few years the lenses are fitted in to the same but new frames nd they check the lens thoroughly before agreeing to refrme them i think i would sk to speak to the manger and address your concerns there.

Neither of us noticed the chip when i took them in. i am worried though that she will not give me my money back since she ordered the frames specially for me. i am such a moron to have paid upfront. but just wanted it done quickly. aghghghhg

ive recently discovered a trick to use when speaking to people like the optician woman - speak to them like of course shes going to give you your money back .....so go in and say i think with hindsight i will have a full refund and id like to speak to the manger about the lenses as i am sure that you and i would have noticed this damage before - dont ask her dont apologise just say it .....
