Has anyone set up a Time to Pay plan with HMRC?

Hi there

Am after some advice from anyone who has ever needed to set up a Time to Pay plan with HMRC for self assessment. I'm going to have issues paying my self assessment in one go this year. It's not previously been an issue but circumstances have changed.

I think I have no other option than setting up a plan but am worried about the logistics and how long they will give me to pay. It's a fairly sizeable amount (over £10k including payment on account) and I won't be able to do this over 12 months. Has anyone ever done anything similar? How straight forward is the process?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can do it online

I had to call them to set this up as. I’d missed the deadline to do it on line. They were really helpful - the hardest thing was making the call. I had £20k to pay and agreed it over 4 years i think.
don’t be afraid to call them - was such a relief
