DH/spouse impact on my credit score - anyone else experienced this?

Hey everyone,

DH is in a bit of a muddle moneywise and has had to ask a couple of creditors for a payment plan. He also has some missed payments over the last year. I am not angry over this - I understand what has happened and I am glad he is sorting it. his credit file is awful and it will take a few years to sort this out.

We have a joint account and a mortgage so it's inevitable that we are financially associated and that his credit profile may impact me if I ever apply for credit elsewhere.

it's not a major worry as I have no plans to apply for any loans etc, however I am wondering if it may be an issue if I try and upgrade my mobile phone to a new handset etc. Do all lenders credit check financial associates?

Does anyone else have a partner/dh that you are financially associated who has a poor credit profile and if so, has it impacted you?

thanks in advance :)

His credit history could affect your ability to get credit but the mobile phone one is minor and easily solvable as its not actually necessary to take out a mobile phone contract any more so I don't understand why you'd do it anyway.

Just get a sim only plan which is paid for on monthly DD and buy your phone separately,it's usually cheaper that way and gives you more flexibility.
