How much did you save on maternity/ as a SAHM?

Hi
I am currently getting around £1050 a month (with child benefits and mat pay with a bit of UC top up).
My DH is covering all of the mortgage and bills luckily, and I pay a little towards small bills and save some for the twins.
I am managing to save around £250 a month just in my savings pot, I don’t spend a lot and don’t feel I need to.
I was just wondering is this okay? I don’t have any new mums around so I don’t know if I am saving too little etc.

We are lucky that later when I do return to work for 2-3 days a week we will have family able to babysit.

I think you're doing better than most! In my experience new mums dip into savings for maternity, not save more 😂

** Editing because I meant that as a really good thing but reread it as a bit bitchy 🫠 I think you’re doing well to save so much!

It is what it is @Mumsworld112 You can only say what you can only say it’s not wrong or it’s not right. You have some along in a minute to tell you that’s plenty you’re very lucky and you’ll have others along to tell you that that’s not enough and how could you possibly rely on your husband? Do what works for you it doesn’t matter what anybody else does.

When on advanced mat pay - about 2/3rd of it which was earmarked to make nursery fees less painful
When on statutory mat pay - zero

I’m just impressed you are managing to save! I had to dip into savings when I was on maternity leave.

FWIW I saved similar but that was because we had no mortgage and bills were covered by dh also. I also received two lots of SMP as I had two jobs so that helped a lot!

Most people on UC are not saving £250 so think you are doing fine. Personally aI think saving £50 instead for the kids would be better.
