Advice please - council tax still charging me

Hi all, just wondering if anyone could give me some advice please
I moved out of a tenancy recently and left the Borough, and contacted my old council so I’d stop getting charged.
Used to live in tower hamlets and they prefer you to notify them via the website with their own form etc instead of calling up.

Already had done this back in November but I’ve not had any confirmation they’ve closed my account, and still getting charged monthly. It’s a lot of money to me as I’m on a low wage

When logging into my council tax account it’s showing as ‘active’ instead of closed. I then filled the same form a second time to notify them I’ve left the property via the council tax website form

I have tried calling them but it’s impossible to get through to an actual human as it’s an automated recording telling you to do xyz via their website. There doesn’t seem to be a customer services email either that I can explain the issue to either

I'm assuming you are paying by direct debit? Personally I'd cancel it, they'll be quick to contact you when it is not paid...

Presumably when you left the tenancy you had served the correct period of notice ?

Yes, did your tenancy end officially? Did you provide your new address too?

Have you got an end of tenancy date?

do you have the end of tenancy date in writing?

If so email the council tax team and include a photograph of the date you ended the tenancy. If you don't have the end of tenancy date in writing then email and let them know the date you moved out

unfortunately the people working on the cases of moves etc are not responsible for the collection of money - so if they have not closed your case then the money will still be going out

if you pay by direct debit then as pp states stop the direct debit or standing order with your bank.

Even if you have moved out of a property but the tenancy hasn't ended, you will still be liable for council tax until he tenancy ends - even if you are living else where
