Tenancy agreement, please tell me if I'm understanding this correctly or am I going mad?

My Tenancy agreement states...

"The rent is £xxx every month, payable in advance by you on or before the first day of each rental period."

My rent is due on the first day of the month, therefore...

If I pay it on the first of the month(rather than the last day of the previous month) that doesn't make it late does it? Since it states above that the rent is due " on or before the first day"...

Is this right or am I losing the plot?

they need to receive the rent by the first of the month, which ime means you need it to leave your bank account on about the 27th of the month ish. hth

But I have a rent card and I pay at the post office so the money goes into the account on the same day. So, if I pay it on the first when it is due they receive it on the first.

You are right, then.

yes pay it on the 1st then

I'm so glad I'm not going mad, thank you.

I usually pay the rent before the 1st of the month but I paid February's rent on the 1st of the month and it shows on the rent statement that they received it on the 1st.

today I got a letter saying that I'm a month behind in the rent and still owe them Aprils rent money. But they received Febs and I paid the March rent before the 1st of March and I paid Aprils rent on March 31st. Plus the rent statment says I'm in Credit because I always pay a little more each month.

I'm sure it must be a mistake and I'm going to phone them on Monday morning.

Thanks again.
