any one know...car finance in ex p's name, im registered owner

Ex p has car finance in his name, but i am registered owner with dvla. Ex p said he'd keep paying, only 9 months left but has changed his mind. I have told him to ring the finance co and get the payments made from my account but he hasn't. Does anyone know where i stand in regards to part exchanging the car. Can i or not? Or how can i get the payments to be made by me as the co wont speak to me as its not in my name? Anyone any ideas please

Is it a hire purchase agreement? If so, you cannot sell or dispose of it until all payments have been made.

If it is not a hire purchase agreement, merely a loan which was used to purchase the car, then you can dispose of it as you wish. Your ex-p will still be liable for all outstanding payments.

Thanks, im not sure whether it is hire purchase or not, i'll have to find out. Thanks again. Oh i hope its a loan so he has to keep paying! ha ha
