Selling an ex council property

I need some advice please if anyone can help. I had a council property which I rented for 20 years on my own. I then got with someone and we decided to buy it. I had 70% discount. I had to put him on the tenancy a month or so before we bought it as I could not get the mortgage we needed on my earnings alone. We have now split up and he wants half the house. Would i be entitled to more than half because of the discount or not?

I'd say 50/50, you wouldn't be able to have bought it without him.

Do you own the house as joint tenants or tenants in common? If you own it as joint tenants you are entitled to 50% each. If you own as tenants in common you are entitled to whatever share you agreed initially.

I wouldn’t have thought so. You bought the house together and without him, you wouldn’t have been in a position to make the purchase. Your rental period as a single tenant is unlikely to come into it. Maybe check with a solicitor.

I doubt it. You didn't put in more, you just managed to buy it cheaper

Ridiculous

You’re not married, so the important thing is whether he is on the title deeds. I hope you’re able to get some good legal advice.
