Critical illness or income protection insurance?

We have recently moved house and are looking to revisit our insurance options. We have a critical illness policy atm, are both NHS employees so get paid sick leave for a year and life insurance through our pensions.

Our mortgage adviser recommended that income protection may now be the way to go instead of crit illness.

Anyone have any experience wirh this or recommendations? Thanks

There was a thread on this a few weeks back if you search.
My experience was that I had both, became disabled and unable to work, because it wasn't an illness on the list I couldn't claim, however I could claim on my income protection (which I had defered for 6 months as I worked in nhs). It literally saved us from loosing our house. I'm a single parent so loosing the only income was devastating. It meant it covered the gap between sickness benefit reducing/stopping and my benefits/ill health pension being processed.
I think it depends on individual circumstances but definitely it's harder to claim critical illness cover these days.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look for that other thread.
