I'm waiting for a call back from their security department. No one on Mumsnet can help, but who else can I whine to in the middle of the night.

Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m not sure how it all works if you’re in America but hopefully you can get some (if not all) of that money back

That sucks. I hope you get it back.

That happened to me last week. It was only 440 quid but I managed to catch it happening. By sheer luck I logged into my monzo app and watched in horror as I saw all these transactions going out at a rate of knots. I managed to freeze my card and cancel it. If I hadn't picked up my phone they would have taken the lot.
Did it go out as card transactions? Mine was in USD too. I got it all back 3 days later.

Oh no! Have you any idea how it could have happened?

Things are so tight in the UK now that you have to answer a million security questions and confirm that none of the 'could this be a con' situations apply before they let you move any money between accounts now.

It's such a pain. A friend who doesn't really use internet banking that much tried to send me some money the other day to pay for her share of a day out we had and she mucked up one of the security questions because she couldn't remember her paternal grandfather's neighbour's inside leg measurement or some other obscure fact and she was locked out of her account completely until she'd phoned another call centre, reset all her security questions and waited for a whole new set of log in codes to be posted to her.

But here you can usually get back any money taken unless the bank can prove that you've been negligent so hopefully you'll get your money back soon.

IT was an EFT transfer to a Korean Bank.

I gotta major dental appointment this morning, then I'll be spending the entire day on hold with various departments of the bank.

Sigh

Brief update: The computer tech spent 3 hours tracking down and deleting a virus. All done now, cross fingers.

I managed to talk to a security person at the bank, they are going to mail me a form, and after I send it back I will get my $6000 back in 2 - 3 weks.

So, all's well that ends well. Right?
