Been approved for child benefit - but when is first payment?

Hello, I applied for child benefit for my 3 children for the first time. It has been approved (received a letter in the post) and it states will be backdated for 3 months.

However, does not state when the payment will enter my account, as I have not actually received any payment yet. Anybody know?

Are you sure it’s not on the letter? It could be 4 weeks before the proper payments start.

Child benefit is paid on a schedule, assuming you're on 4 weekly it should be 1st July. Don't know whether they will pay the backdated amount separately though, I suspect not.

I applied to receive payments on 17th May and it arrived 20th June- backdated to April, in one lump.

I have still not received any payment, only a letter to say it was approved and will be backdated from 29th January. I assume that I will get the payment beginning of July hopefully.

Hello, yes I did. I had to wait for the next month and I received 12months backdated from my application and then the months that it took till I got approval. It comes once a month at the beginning of the month!

Thank you OP! If you don’t mind me asking How long did it take from putting your application in to receiving your first payment? Mine is now 4 weeks I’m thinking it could be a while yet!
