We need to move $60K from our Australian bank account to the UK - whats the best way to do this? Both bank accounts are in the same name. Is it worth using a broker?

Has anyone used Wise transfers?

I use Wise a lot for US-UK transfers ($->£). Very happy with it and never had issues. Anecdotally nearly everyone in my workplace uses them - we get a percentage of income in US shares so there are frequent transfers out - and it's always smooth. It's not an intuitive website imo so you need to be careful the first time you use it, but that'd be my only criticism.

Last time I used it there was some sort of referral discount / bonus available - say if you end up using it and want me to check if still active (would benefit us both).

DH moved a slightly larger amount a few years ago via Xe.com. At that time, it worked out the best rates above the regular money transfer sites or going bank to bank. Which bank account are you with in Aus? I'm not sure if its just the commonwealth, or all Aussie banks, but Commonwealth have since limited the amount you can withdraw each month. I don't can't recall the limit though and again, it might be bank dependent. Its worth asking them to check.

I've used Wise quite a few times for converting UK Pounds Sterling to pay friends and family in Euros (because they live there) - my bank (Barclays stopped a few of these transactions as Wise, they said, is used by fraudsters and for money laundering - but my argument was that ALL banks face these problems - personally I think it was anti-competitive behaviour on the part of Barclays - as it was cheaper to convert currency using Wise than via Barclays - anyway - it was a simple (but irritating) matter of them checking with me that nothing untoward was going on. My friends and family in Europe also use Wise.

Another vote for wise - just most $$$$ AUD to my UK bank account using them with no issues :)

Thanks, that would be handy!
