Shopping around for life insurance

I do have a policy but that is coming to an end in about 18 months time. I know I need to get something else but I have no idea how to get the best deal or what to look out for. Does anyone have any good tips. I am 50 if that makes a difference.

You need to cosider how much you want to be insured for and take as best as you can what inflation may do to the figure

Be careful and make sure you answers the questions clearly re medicals etc

IMO, you need a life ins that pays you nothing if you don't die as they are much cheaper - with a fixed monthly amount

Also need to consider as many people don't dies but have another truam that results in the cant's work as this can be added to a life ins I think but premiums go up

Importantly as we get older, we get medical conditions so if you can, go for the longest term - we took life insurance out for both of us when we were in our 20's up until the age of 60 -- its much cheaper than taking out later though you pay more for the longer term its a peace of mind IMO

We have advised our kids - take out very long term life ins they have - and not just covering the mortgage but more on top

Then shop around like for like cover, - you may find you want to get one know and cancel the other if it only pays on death - check with your policy provider before you do that - possibly ask them to extend the term and cash amount and see what they say

Good luck
