Boring qn - bought child's single bed sized duvet but the matching pillow case is for a cot pillow - can I get a refund!?

I bought a single bed sized duvet cover for my ds but the matching pillow case is for a cot pillow. It was bought mail order. Can I get a refund and if so will I be liable to pay for the P&P again.

I think if a duvet cover is single bed sized it should certainly come with a pillowcase to fit a normal size pillow not a cot bed one.

Of course you can get a refund. It is not 'fit for purpose'....see the Sale of Goods Act...you are entitled to a refund. Call them up, explain and tell them that you wish them to either send you the correct item or that you are sending their item back (free of charge) and that you wish a refund.

Mail order companies usually include a returns slip and a freepost address label. If not then phone them, there shouldn't be an issue.

If it was the only thing you bought then they should refund the original P&P too (phone them first to make sure they're aware that you want this). It probably won't be refunded if you also order other things as you would have had to pay P&P for them anyway.

Slight hitch - I washed it before realising the pillowcase was the wrong size....but I don't see that it was unreasonable. Ds has ezcema and so I wanted to wash it and didn't think to check first. Will that matter?!

Does not sound unreasonable to me. If I were you I would call them and explain the situation. I think they will prob be fine about it tbh. You will prob get a refund or a replacement.

If they are being pricks about it, then tell them that you know your rights under the Sale of Goods Act and that you want a refund!!!

Ah another hitch, on the photo in the website they include part of the packaging which in quite small letters has the dimensions of the products. 60x40cm is the pillowcase size which is the cot size I think.
I guess I should have noticed this...damn!

which website is it? what is the size of the duvet? Surely this must be bigger than a cot size duvet?

Tbh if you have ordered 'the wrong thing' then this places you at a disadvantage as they are under no statutory obligation to give you a refund......

you may have a better argument if their advert is unclear or ambigious...

MNersanonymous · 05/04/2008 22:19

Basically it is a small shop's website. They advertise the duvet as a single bed duvet set. There is no mention of the pillow size apart from on the packaging shown in the photo.

To clarify I haven't ordered the wrong thing....the pillowcase comes as a set with the single bed duvet cover - not seperately. I assumed a single bed duvet would come with a normal size pillowcase and did not notice the small print on the photo which does show the dimensions.

Well in that case, I would say that you have a good argument.......a single bed set should be that - a single bed set............not a cot set!!! Do you want me to send them an e-mail on your behalf???????????

MNersanonymous · 05/04/2008 22:23

That would be fab of you

I know that strictly speaking they could say it shows the dimensions in the photo so I should have noticed them but it seems odd that they didn't say it in the main text. It might end up being one of those issues where they either decide to refund or not based on good faith.

Tbh if it was advertised as a 'single set' then I would expect it to be that!! Can you give me the link to the website so that I can have a look? I am off to bed now as am knackered but will look at it tomorrow and will send an e-amil/call on your behalf if you wish.

I will check back in to this thread tomorrow...

Thanks K999 - I've emailed them just now. I'll call them to and explain the situation if they don't reply quickly.

Gut feel is they will realise they've made an error and be helpful.

Thats good. Have been thinking......do you actually get a pillow case for a cot? I thought that cots were not meant to have pillows as such? I only ask as I have two dcs and I have never used a pillow in either of their 'cots'....let me know how you get on.

MNersanonymous · 07/04/2008 22:13

K999 you can buy cot pillows but they are not recommended for use on under 12 month olds. And even after that a pillow really is not necessary.
