Octopus Energy have massively overcharged us

Just a heads up really...to all those with Octopus Energy. It has transpired that for the past 4 years that have been swapping our day & night energy readings around in error and overcharged us by a huge amount.

We are in the process of sorting it out with them.

If you are with them and on a day / night rate, please check your readings and make sure that you and them have Rate 1 & Rate 2 allocated to day / night as appropriate.

We were negligent in not checking each bill, but were overwhelmed with how expensive our bills had become so finally (after them joining us for extra money) sat down and thoroughly checked.

Ooh I need to do this - I've been with octopus a while so assumed they were correct and haven't checked with the actual readings since joining.

I also hold my hands up I should've checked more closely but as everything got really expensive I thought it had just gone up.

What they did was charge me day / night. But I didn't have a day night meter so no way of taking advantage of the cheaper night.

It's with the ombudsman now as they keep insisting they were correct

Yes, we are also accepting that we should have been checking more closely - lesson learnt!

they are also saying to us that we are on the wrong tariff for night / day as they suggested our monthly payments should be £500+ 😱hopefully will reduce our bill going forward by being on the correct tariff but not sure this realisation will make any difference to the previous months extortionately high usage costs 🫠

@roastedrapidly Did you get this sorted at all? I've only just noticed something similar on our account and they have proceeded to charge us around £4000 over last few months. Our usage on their app contradicts this and it should be around £800 for the same period. Looking at our bills it seems like they have also been switching around our day and night rates.

I plan to contact them tomorrow to sort, but I'm really concerned, seen all sorts online about them denying any wrongdoings, etc.
