Has anyone applied for Disability Allowance for Depression/Anxiety?

I applied last week. I know its early but I haven't heard anything as yet.

I'm not so sure the application will be granted but I ticked alot of the boxes for it I think.

Anyone else had a successful claim?

Are you sure you can apply for it for depression & anxiety?

Divastrop · 02/04/2008 21:10

ive never claimed disability only IB (for anxiety and depression) but this site is very good for info

When my sister was alive i think that was the benefit she used to get.

Beauregard · 02/04/2008 21:11

or was it incapacity?

Nbg · 02/04/2008 21:38

Well it covers Mental Health and as I mentioned I do tick alot of the boxes like not being able to go out etc.

I wonder if I should possibly claim for IP benefit too in case the disability isnt right.

God I hate this.

Nbg-did you look at the link i posted?i dont know what your situation is but normally you apply for IB if you are unable to work due to illness but i think DLA is totally different and in some cases you can get it even if you are working.

Beauregard · 02/04/2008 22:27

sorry to be nosey nbg but do you work?

I work part time and applied for it and was decline - their reasoning was that i didn't need help doing anything

I get DLA for depression/anxiety/PTSD. They had to get a letter from my psychiatric nurse. I think it depends how it affects you, I get higher for one thing and middle rate for another because mine is really bad. It took maybe about 8 weeks before I heard anything I think, but I think that was because they were waiting for a letter.

mumblechum · 03/04/2008 15:53

One of my clients (I'm a divorce lawyer) was recently granted DLA for bipolar disorder and depression.

blushingm · 09/04/2008 10:04

so should i appeal? I was off work for 6 months with pnd but they say i have ocd anxiety and depression. I have had CBT and see a consultant at the hopsital every month. Is the reason 'i don't need help with day to day living' not good enough?

I really hate using the phone would i be able to use email/letters?
