PREMIUM BONDS. APRIL 2024

1000 replies

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2024 15:09

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1860 in prizes

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,860

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 3 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

White - main one with info 😄😄😄

Blue - those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

But I won last month and didn't show anything the day before so not sure it shows for all

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

£300 each for DH and I, both on FH. Much better than the last few months, so I can’t complain - but still not quite what I was hoping for! We’ve now taken a chunk out each and transferred it into our ISAs before the deadline, so will not be FH from now on.

AdultFemaleWoman · 03/04/2024 00:09

Just checked at 12:01 and won £100
Whoo hoo!

DaydreamerBetty · 03/04/2024 00:09

Chuffed, £50 for me off a 2k block, first time I’ve won 3 times in a row. Holdings of just over £15,200.
Well done to those that have been lucky, better luck next time to those that haven’t. 🍀🍀🍀

Flin · 03/04/2024 00:10

This month £775 for me on FH. Very pleased!

That brings my total to £1750 since Jan draw.

FreakInTheSheets

Yes I think you could refresh until midnight and potentially have more come in.

However it's not an exact science because in the past I haven't had anything showing as pending and have still won something when the other app reveals at midnight.

This

Blue didn't show for me last month but I won

3 x £25, 1 x £50 and 1x 100 = £225 on FH.

Not bad!

clary · 03/04/2024 00:12

Oooh £175 for me this month, very pleased with that (on FH but got £1,200 last month so anything is a bonus).

Hoping for some bigggg winners on the thread

Treaclespoon · 03/04/2024 00:14

£150 on almost FH making it £575 for 2024 - so far so good for this year

RustyBear · 03/04/2024 00:14

£375 for me & £125 for DH, both have FH. Happy with that.

ShyTed · 03/04/2024 00:14

£75 this month for me - £24k holdings

£425 altogether in the past 6 draws.
My mum, dad & sister always get a lot more than me even when I think I’ve had a good month 😂 (they have FH)

Crazymadchickenlady · 03/04/2024 00:17

£575 for me

nunsflipflop · 03/04/2024 00:19

£100 for me on FH. £125 for DH on FH. Only our 2nd draw and we do get pleasure from waiting to see what or whether we have won.

Good luck everyone

Starseeking · 03/04/2024 00:19

Nothing for me this month, I need to put a few thousand in at the end of this month to see if it makes a difference as I won £150 the first month I had £25k in, then had to withdraw it a couple of months later to buy a car. Haven't had anything since!

LostInSpaceRaiders · 03/04/2024 00:20

Sweet AF for me this month with full holding (first time in a while I’ve not had anything admittedly). Nothing for DH either who has 5k at present (poor lad hasn’t had anything for well over 6 months now)

MercyChant66 · 03/04/2024 00:21

£100 on FH - really not great at all but at least it's something as very often I get nothing.

Gooseysgirl · 03/04/2024 00:22

£75 on full holdings. Was hoping for more as it's unlikely we'll have full holdings again ever.

Minikievs · 03/04/2024 00:27

@FreakInTheSheets I'm pulling mine and putting it in a cash ISA.
I think I'd make more long term in S&S but I'm risk averse by nature.
I'll miss the hope of a big win, but I've made £210 since the end of Jan on £20k ISA. And I've made £50 in the same timeframe on £25k in PB. It's a no brainer for me.
I'm cross with PB now.

Owl55 · 03/04/2024 00:29

All these people winning regular amounts , my husbands had on for over 40 years and won £25 once years ago , my childrens grandparents bought them £5 bond each and never won in 40 + years 🤢

Offredsrevenge · 03/04/2024 00:36

£200 on FH which breaks my run of terrible luck, albeit not with a significant amount.

Still that’s the equivalent of a 4.4% return for this month which as over the last 12 months I was averaging a shocking 0.8% return is a significant improvement.

Although that makes my FH interest earnings 1.13% taken over the last 12 months which is still a terrible return and if I had any sense I’d take it out.

I’d warn people off investing in Premium Bonds and kind of feel stuck with them as surely my luck must change and I’ll see that now 1.13% increase as a 12 month average, meaning I’m still due some bigger wins!

TerriPie · 03/04/2024 00:36

FreakInTheSheets · 03/04/2024 00:06

You guys that are pulling it and putting it in your ISA instead. Is that a cash ISA or a stocks and shares ISA? You have to have nerves of steel to leave money in stocks and shares when the market is tanking but they do say that's the only way to end up rich - buy MORE when the market is tanking!

Yeah I'm always tempted to withdraw when I win nothing of a month. But I try not to let short-term emotion dictate my overall money strategy. I try to look at the bigger picture, I reckon I probably am averaging about 4-5% over the long term.

I can't mentally handle investments, pensions excepted, so stick to cash ISA's. I would rather lose out on money I never had (higher interest) than lose any of the invested money I did have my hands on. Guess my risk aversness is why I'll never be a millionaire 🤷

Oh, and back to PB's - £75 on nearly FH.

clary · 03/04/2024 00:36

Just looking at my prize history (have had them since 2020) - for ages I only ever won £25 - sometime multiples, £50, a couple of £75s, but never anything bigger.

But lately, I assume since they changed the prize structure, I have more often been winning a £100 or two or three plus a £50 or a £25 or so. I've won about £2.5k in the last 12 months (admittedly I got a £1k last month) which looks a lot better than the £3-400 I won in my first year.

TerriPie · 03/04/2024 00:40

Owl55 · 03/04/2024 00:29

People always say this but the majority of winners probably have £50K invested. Your husband is probably really lucky to have won anything over the years.

Old bonds do win big sometimes though so maybe you'll get lucky one day.

SnowFrogJelly · 03/04/2024 00:52

£100 on 25k holdings here.. I'll take that

OneFrenchEgg · 03/04/2024 00:52

£75 on £10,750 will be £11,750 next month.

OneFrenchEgg · 03/04/2024 00:53

Am going to put prizes in a savings account rather than reinvest (all part of my eggsperiment)
