PREMIUM BONDS. APRIL 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2024 15:09

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1860 in prizes

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,860

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 3 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

White - main one with info 😄😄😄

Blue - those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

But I won last month and didn't show anything the day before so not sure it shows for all

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

DH and I had a conversation earlier. We have some money we were going to put into a high interest account but we can't get at it if we needed to so we are thinking we shouldn't do that after all. So thinking pbs.

Can anyone tell me how much notice you need if you want to get at your money?

Also how often does someone win a million? I reckon we'll be lucky to get £20 but always worth dreaming

Normally 3 days into account

2 x millionaires a month

Thanks for the new thread.

Fingers crossed my little holding brings in a little prize this month.

Kitkat1523 · 02/04/2024 00:32

I honestly think I am going to win the million every month….then I don’t….but I still have high hopes month in month out….I don’t do the lottery…much prefer this….I have £3k ….had them since 2009….won £125 this year so far ( 25 in Jan and 100 in March) ….good luck everyone 🍀

RustyBear · 02/04/2024 00:41

I wish that instead of 2x 1 million, they had 1x 500,000 and 2x250,000, so you had a better chance of winning a ‘big’ prize

Ah but Agent 250k just doesn't have the same ring to it 😂

Kaltenzahn · 02/04/2024 01:18

I'm trying not to check the big winners list this month. So far it seems that the more excited I am in the run up the less likely I am to win anything. My biggest win was when I was so busy with work I forgot all about it and didn't check til the 6th 😂

WearyAuldWumman · 02/04/2024 01:51

Well, no big winner for me. Thanks for the list, Blondeshavemorefun.

Well, no big winner for me. Thanks for the list, Blondeshavemorefun.

Same for me! Hoping for a decent win on Wednesday now

Gooseysgirl · 02/04/2024 04:13

We got £50 on almost full holdings last month. Desperately hoping for a bigger win this month - the money is only temporarily there as we need to withdraw most of it over the next couple of months for house repairs. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Countrylife2002 · 02/04/2024 07:38

thanks for the list @Blondeshavemorefun

Wishlist99 · 02/04/2024 07:39

Good luck everyone!

Countrylife2002 · 02/04/2024 07:42

Wow the one that won £25k on £62 worth of holdings bought in 1974! I’d love to know the stories behind winnings like this!

wheresmyshoe · 02/04/2024 07:43

No picture here, no win so far this year 😬 fingers crossed for us all.

cupcakes12blossom · 02/04/2024 07:51

Good luck everyone for tomorrow...I'm determined not to check the high value list!

hotmailgmailoutlook · 02/04/2024 07:55

No big win for me . i had eligible bonds from £135 to £2400 this month. I haven't won anything so far. Hoping for at least £25 this month

westisbest1982 · 02/04/2024 07:57

I’m not on the list, unfortunately. I’m planning on buying a new laptop so £1K would have been nice but I’ll be happy even with a £25 win.

Minikievs · 02/04/2024 07:59

This is the first time I've realised that AM leaves a note or tries to call!
So now I have PB sad acceptance (as usual!) that I've not won, because I've always previously thought it could still be me, as I'm usually out/at work when they'd call round! If they leave a calling card or phone call then it's not me (AGAIN!) this month 😂

Musiclover234 · 02/04/2024 08:04

As a lower end premium bonds holder I think the lower value wins do give us hope it could be us! Might not win very often but there is a chance… one £25 purchase has one £5k for someone after less than 4 years!

Quite a few high wins too for people who haven’t held bonds for long at all.

I’ve held bonds that built up to over 4k between 2020 and last year. Averaging a £25 win every six months or so. I stopped putting money in and put more savings to account with higher interest rate but kept the 4k in.

However the first two months of 2024 I won £25 then £175 the following month. It’s made me think those of us with lower amounts it’s a long haul thing. Look at the winners list, many have held really small amounts for years but have won!

Also my experience isn’t the same as others @Blondeshavemorefun has a lower amount in like me but they won far more than I do 😂

Coastalcreeksider · 02/04/2024 08:16

Nothing for me on the big winner list, I have nearly full holding plus a £1 bond from 1965. Hope to get something with tomorrow's list.

I have no holder number for the £1 bond although I do know the actual bond number and keep meaning to write to NS&I as it will still be under my childhood address if by some absolute miracle it would come up.

I think winning with just a single bond that old though is the stuff of dreams. 😁

InMySpareTime · 02/04/2024 08:21

@Coastalcreeksider be careful not to ever have full holdings with that £1 knocking about, some people have been deemed ineligible for prizes because they've gone over FH accidentally that way.

I'd get it sorted as a priority. It might have already won!
