How to find an old pension?

I'm trying to get a better handle on money, pensions, savings etc and I recently remembered about a very old work pension I had paid into for a few years.

I worked for AXA Equity & Law in the Isle of Man and my pension was with them for a short while during the early 1990's. I think Axa is now owned by Aviva and I spoke to someone in Aviva about finding the old pension and hit a dead end. I don't have any paperwork here either.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can find out whether this old pension could be floating around out there somewhere?

Pension tracing service will find it for you

Odd you spoke to Aviva and hit a dead-end. I've got a pension with them and just this afternoon filled in their online tool asking them to trace a previous pension. I moved house and company just as they changed pension supplier and merged with a larger company so I'm hoping Aviva can find it for me.

The downside is, I didn't know till I'd completed the form that it can take 4 weeks to 6 months to get an answer! Get a Google on, Aviva do have a new tool, the person you spoke to just didn't know about it which is quite poor.
