30 hours childcare eligibility when starting a business

Hi,

I’ve got a query about the above, wondered if anyone knew….

Has anyone started a business when their kid was 3 and did they get the 30 hours free childcare? Eg not earning the threshold but eligible on basis that businesses aren’t expected to make the required amount in first year.

Background:

When DD1 was two I tried starting a business, because it my first year I was eligible for tax free childcare (the government top up).

After 3 months I jacked it in as childcare costs got too high vs growth of my business. I got an employed job and we brought forward our plan for a second child.

DD2 will be two this year and the 15 hours free childcare will start from September for us.

I am wondering about my options here with returning to work.

Specifically, if I would be eligible for the 15 hours if I had another go at starting my business again?

If I can get some free hours whilst I start getting it going this is so much more likely for me to get it properly going. Last time it was too hard financially since the help was very low. But 15 hours childcare changes things significantly.

The 15 hours from two years old is new. But wondering if anyone started a business when their kid was 3 and did they get the 30 hours free childcare? I’m hoping/thinking it would likely be the same rules.

Thanks for reading.
