PREMIUM BONDS FEB 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2024 19:27

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff if I’ve missed anything out

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 each time so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k x 2/3/4

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1860 in prizes

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,860

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland

There are 3 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

White - main one with info 😄😄😄

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

Should be noted that if you are lucky enough to have full holdings you won’t see anything in the blue app even if you have won as that only shows reinvested prizes.

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

I won £100 on £3300 . That's my first win since Oct 22 and also the first one that isn't £25

CaveMum · 02/03/2024 07:02

Well done to the big winners.

£200 (from 4 prizes) for me and £150 (from 4 prizes) for DH, both on full holdings.

bluevelvetbox · 02/03/2024 07:05

£100 on FH. A bit disappointed. £500 for the total year so far.

Florabella · 02/03/2024 07:09

£150 for me on £15000. Pleased with that, but I will be withdrawing some next month to put in an ISA when the new tax year starts

RoseBliss · 02/03/2024 07:09

£25 each for me and DH, both on FH

26k holdings and nothing again. I’ve made about £750 over two years which is really poor. I’ll be able to top up to 50k very soon but wondering whether it will be better for me to put the money elsewhere

Thinking same thing. £18k and nothing 2 months running. Would have £150 by now if had left it in the savings account except it would be taxable. Which is why i moved - also for the thrill but then you have to deal with the disappointment 😂
the people with big wins gives me hope though !

Hollyhead · 02/03/2024 07:15

£175 this month for me on a FH. Quite pleased although I’m still smarting from my dry spell - I’m still due a lucky month to regain about £600 in interest! 😁

Musiclover234 · 02/03/2024 07:18

No win for me on £4.2k

id say to all those with lower amounts if you can hold your nerve a bit. I’ll admit I’ve only won a handful of times once investing 3.5 years ago. Mostly £25. But the last two months previous I won a total £200. Still small but amazing for me!

I was a bit fed up after nothing for 6 months even though I know it’s likely with small amounts. But looking though the high results some people winning big after years shows you need to be in it to win it.

Completely understand with interest rates higher the FH being disgruntled with low or no wins my partner is one but saying that is always happy with any win tbh. He has another savings in a bond though

Sarvanga38 · 02/03/2024 07:22

£100 for me on £20k.

PixiePirate · 02/03/2024 07:22

Is anyone else having problems with the app? I’ve been trying to check mine for a couple of hours but the app says there’s no internet connection (there is). I’ve tried deleting and reloading the app. Using iPhone 14.

RedHelenB · 02/03/2024 07:29

£200 this month on £25,000 and just looked at the prize checker for the last 6 months and it's been £650 in total so ok with that at 2.6% interest and the chance to win big.

1975wasthebest · 02/03/2024 07:30

Nothing for me on a £6K holding.

CaveMum · 02/03/2024 07:32

@ApplepieGirl1 I suspect @Grinchinlaws has a Stocks and Shares ISA. They don’t have a fixed interest rate, it’s just about how well your investments perform, and obviously there’s the risk that the value could drop if the stock market performs badly.

mumda · 02/03/2024 07:35

Nothing on full holdings. Disappointed.

Hipnotised · 02/03/2024 07:36

Nothimg on FH, been ages since we haven't won anything.

Winnings over past 6 months £1525.

43ontherocksporfavor · 02/03/2024 07:38

3 prizes on £30k- £50,£50 and £100!!! Highest prize so far. 😁

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/03/2024 07:43

£125 on FH

LilianaVikavanovich · 02/03/2024 07:44

£200 win on full holdings for me ( and I’m delighted with that )
Same amount for DS , DH had £175 , both have FH

yumscrummy · 02/03/2024 07:44

Zero on £41500, gutted.

bobby81 · 02/03/2024 07:47

No win this month on nearly FH.... have had some good wins recently though so can't complain.
Congratulations to all this months winners!

DarlingCoffee · 02/03/2024 07:52

£50 on nearly FH. Am grateful but feel a bit meh. Thinking about withdrawing some to top up my ISA before the end of the tax year now.

43ontherocksporfavor · 02/03/2024 07:53

Yes last month we had zero on £30k, I was going to withdraw but the £200 has given me pause for thought. Won £525 since Sept.

Tomorrowtomorrow77 · 02/03/2024 07:55

£50 again on almost full holdings. That’s the same as Jan and Feb. The most I’ve ever had was £250. Hoping for a big one this year before I have to spend it on my house!

ooooohnoooooo · 02/03/2024 08:02

£350 for me on FH

Now I'm going to cash them in as the returns are rubbish at the moment.

So a tag and a boo that I didn't get the agent millions call we all hope for 😊😂😬

Cowhen · 02/03/2024 08:05

Happy for @clary and @Seasidesusy !

Nothing here, but only holding ~6k.

I don't know if I'd want to hold much more than that, as I'd be fuming with no win on bigger holdings. 50k invested at 4% is about 166 per month.
