Universal credit childcare costs

So I've just done a claim for universal credit because according to entitled to I'm able to get some UC.. I'm currently on mat leave and my partner is working full time 34k salary.. but I'm not sure why we're entitled to it?! I thought if you was a working family you didn't get anything? Even when I go back to work in September I'll still be entitled to some, is it purely just for the childcare costs? Sorry I'm absolutely clueless I've never had any sort of benefit before

Many people on UC work. I am not sure why you are surprised? Being honest with you working as well as your partners wage I am not sure if you are entitled to anything.

Do you rent or own? How much do you earn? Did you use the online calculators? I would be cautious as they are not reliable.

UC is for low incomes. Maybe your rent or childcare is high so you qualify.

My salary is 12k as only went back part time after first child, childcare is £600 a month, I'm currently on SMP. We rent
