Cheeky question so feel free to scroll on-

How much unsecured debt do you carry as a household, and how does this compare to your income?

ours is 31k on a joint income of 72k and I’m uncomfortable with this and about to get intense with paying it back

@Lotrehin thank you! I've just signed up to the MSE debt forum after your suggestion. Already finding it helpful. And yes, I'm hoping to be able to transfer some of my debt back over to 0% once I've cleared some of it. Fingers crossed and thanks so much for the encouragement.

Also 'stoozing' here with 0% cards and purchases, so the figures are currently 21k debt on joint net income of 65k. We have more than that available in accessible savings earning good interest, and could pay it off within a day or two in an emergency. Once we reach the end of the deals on credit cards, we will have more than enough to pay them off and have earned interest.

But we have been in less fortunate circumstances when levels of debt really worried me. For quite a long time after I was very debt averse, but with a good few years of feeling in control and financial self-education I'm (very) carefully using credit to build a bigger buffer.

Nice one @Violet19 . If you sign up to credit monitoring services you will totally find 0% offers a few months down the line of paying off. Don't forget, they want your debt and if your debt has gone down over the past few months you're a good prospect for not defaulting. I'm so pleased you've got a plan for getting yourself out of this.
