There's some totally obscene graffiti on a fence that directly faces into the school playground, people have rung the council......

and sod all has been done about it........it's still there, and has been for over a week. How much trouble could I really get into if I took a paintbrush round and painted over the "offending" words??

It reads

Suck my cock u bitch (in VERY large letters and can be seen clearly in the playground by 4-7yr olds who are all learning to read phonetically..........).

What be the worst that could happen if I was "caught" covering just the words up (the fence is covered with loads of other graffiti too - but all very innocuous)

Who does the fence belong to?

I suppose, if you were caught it could be tricky explaining that you were actually not writing graffiti...

choccypig · 15/03/2008 22:44

Take a photo of it before you paint over. Then if anyone objects you can explain why. But don't do it when the children are around, or they'll all want to know why and be even more inclined to start reading it out.

RubberDuck · 15/03/2008 22:44

Do what I did - take a photograph of it and email it to your local MP.

Our MP is a bit of a waste of space normally, but he DID hassle the council quite effectively to get some graffiti removed near us that had been there over a year despite reporting.

I don't know - the council have been totally unhelpful - as have the owners of the house which the fence runs along.....

Well I have plenty of witnesses from the school that the graffiti had been there for sometime......and I'd have a pot of "normal" paint - the stuff on their is all spray painted......

FAQ. Today, I had dog crap smeared all over my car and the woman concerned went all round my house and battered at my door shouting offensive language. The police said "you can complain if you want to. We could have a word with her, but..."

So on that basis, paint over the words. I doubt anyone would be making a complaint.

Who's fence is it? If you can track down the owner, they may well let you paint over it.

FAQ · 15/03/2008 22:46

oh apparently some of them have already started reading it out loud in the playground (first hand witness account ).

I wouldn't do it when the children were around - they all know me and I'd be too embarassed . It's only 2 minutes from my house so I could do it at any time of day (within reason)

OP posts:
RubberDuck · 15/03/2008 22:47

I wouldn't do it without the owner's permission.

Try the MP, if that doesn't work then talk to the owner - say you're happy to pay for it, and you're happy to do the work - would they mind if you sorted out their fence for them?

Bet they'd say yes - they're probably fed up of being hassled because they don't want the expense when they expect it to be graffitied again the second they've fixed it.

FAQ · 15/03/2008 22:49

well the owner are claiming that the fence on that side is council......I wouldn't re-paint the whole fence (it's a big long one and all the panels have graffiti on them........but it's just the one that's got this obscene stuff on it).

I just want to "blank out" the words

Have got a vigilante attitude at the moment. not good.

What do the school say? Can the head not galvanise the council?

I work for my local council and if it was on one of our fences it would be removed inside 24 hours from being reported.

Might be worth ringing their anti social behaviour team to complain?

bossybritches · 16/03/2008 13:19

Paint it- good for you for bothering!

If it is already covered in graffitti then the fence owner is obviously not botherered!

Good luck!
