We're in the middle of buying our first house. 70% shared ownership. Mortgage company instructed their surveyor today and will then send the mortgage offer out. We've signed the usual paperwork for the solicitors, but no contracts yet and only fee paid is for the searches they've carried out.

So, the budget today have said no stamp duty to be paid on shared ownership until 80% is bought. So as we've already started the buying process, will we still have to pay the stamp duty??

effective today if I've read it correctly so you should n't have to pay as you haven't completed.

Oh well that's great! An extra £1500 saved!

Thank you!

That is my understanding too. Only pay if you actually buy
