Capital One hasn't taken Direct Debit from Current Account

On 01 October 2023 I changed my Direct Debit to pay capital one credit card in Full (full statement balance). It used to be set to minimum payment.

There was confirmation on screen to say it was successful. I took a screenshot.

My next statement was issued on 22 October 2023. It says on there:

"Your Direct Debit payment of £1,306.94 will be taken on or after 14 November 23. If you make additional payments, your Direct Debit will still be taken unless your balance is cleared in full, however we may
reduce the amount we collect."

It's 15 November today and the money still hasn't been taken from my current account. The payment due date is 17 November 2023. I'm worried that the Direct Debit won't be deducted and I will be charged late fees, and missed payment recorded on my credit file (then it may become difficult for me to obtain credit in future).

Should I manually pay the full statement balance today? What happens if Capital One tries to deduct the direct debit tomorrow? Would it bounce and then my bank charges fee for unpaid Direct Debit?

The direct debit is likely to be taken tomorrow. Don't make a manual payment as you will then pay twice. If the direct debit isn't taken you simply contact them. It won't affect your credit rating unless the payment is over 30 days late and you can show you set it up so they can waive any fees charged.

Call your bank, they can see pending transactions. My banking app also shows me some pending transactions but not all.

@TeenagersAngst I checked my Banking App this morning and there is no Capital One direct debit showing. There are a few other Direct Debits showing up (none of them Capital One). So It's highly unlikely it's gonno go through

If the DD isn't taken when they've confirmed it will be when you at it up, and then again when you got your statement, you will be able to get them to remove any late fees and correct your credit record do I wouldn't worry. It would be their fault not yours (presuming the funds are in your account of course). But of a pain to sort out but the consequence you are worried shouldn't happen.

@CherryMyBrandy Yes, you are correct. It can be resolved, but I'm worried there'll be quite a bit of 'faffing around'.

Last time I tried to correct an error on my credit file, I remember going back and forth between the credit reference agency and bank. It was a real pain. TBH, on hindsight, I should've just complained to the bank, then if they were unable to resolve gone to the ombudsman. No need to have gone back and forth.

I though, paying by direct debit has many plus's. Peace of mind being one of them. although this sorta thing happens in a blue moon, it's done nothing of the sort (bring peace of mind - real stressful actually having to keep checking the bank's app to see if the Direct debit (DD) has been taken).

I wonder if if it would've been best to cancel the DD (setup to pay minimum payment) then waited a couple of days, then setup a brand new DD, rather than amend the DD from minimum payment to statement balance.

I have a capital one card and I just pay manually but every time it takes a few days to clear so I think it's just a capital one issue
