Fine for late registration for self assessment?

I’ve just gone to register for self assessment for the first time, feeling slightly smug that I’m ahead of schedule for 31 Jan filing deadline and spotted a 5 October deadline for SA 😳. It also says that there’s a possible fine if you don’t register before this date.

does anyone know if I’m likely to be fined?

I’m only just over the threshold for the high income child benefit charge, so I only have about £100 to pay back anyway and really hoping I don’t get fined….

Dh did ours on 10th October and its been accepted and no mention of a fine.
Online is 31st January.
I thought the paper one was end of October.

Not sure if registration is different, we're already registered.

We've frequently registered clients late (they've come to us late) and and I can't recall ever getting a late registration fine.

Thanks all - this is reassuring!

@Reggiebo - this is me doing it online but apparently there’s a 5 October deadline for registration as well as a 31 Jan deadline for filing!

And I think failure to notify penalties are % based on lost revenue. So as long as you do notify, file & pay by 31 Jan there is no lost revenue to raise a % penalty on.
