Looking for some advice about pregnancy, maternity leave and mortgage deals! Has anyone else had a similar situation? 🙈
Our fixed rate mortgage deal is coming to an end at the end of this month/ start of next month. At the minute the mortgage is in my name because my partner is self-employed but we are planning on adding him to the new mortgage!
We had a meeting with our mortgage broker in earlier in the year to discuss a new mortgage deal and answered all the financial affordability questions with him then. At that point we knew we were pregnant but were early on and had not had all of our scans yet so I did not feel comfortable sharing the news with others.
We had a few brief emails and phone calls over the last few months about rates changing and secured a slightly lower rate but at no point were we asked about our financial situation again or if anything had changed in our financial situation. So we didn’t say anything! We would of if he had asked! Tbh I didn’t really think much about it until now 🙈
We had our amazing baby boy at the end of October and I am due another phone call soon to discuss renewing my life insurance with the mortgage broker.
I’m guessing that the questions from the life insurance company will ask about dependents etc and we will obviously need to disclose that we are now parents and that I am on Maternity leave.
I’m now worrying and wondering if this will this affect our mortgage offer and will we need to go through the financial check again if we tell our mortgage broker about our (lovely) change in circumstances? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
We probably should have disclosed to him earlier after we had our scans and stuff but honestly like I said he didn’t ask and I actually didn’t really think a lot about it! I’ll put that down to baby brain 🙈
