Home Insurance - when a claim wasn't a claim

We've had to rip out our shower, surrounding tiles and replace floor underneath due to the shower tray being cracked underneath (nothing to see on top). We thought it was a leaking pipe until the plumbers came. Anyway, I rang our home insurance to see if we'd be covered and the problem is wear and tear so not covered. Our renewal is due mid November and I've been looking around for a cheaper quote (the renewal price was £8 a month more). Found a much cheaper quote and applied online but had to speak to a real person. Turns out, the telephone call that I made has been logged on the database as a claim and so quotes are coming back almost double the renewal price. Stupidly I already told my existing insurers I wouldn't be renewing due to cost and now am completely stuffed unless I can get proof in writing from my existing insurers that no claim happened.

Has anyone had any luck with/been in a situation like this?

Edited to add the waiting times on the phone are ridiculously long - I gave up yesterday after roughly half an hour and today after 40 minutes.

You have to get them to change the status of it from claim to 'notes' or 'enquiry' or whatever status means it isn't flagged on the insurance databases. I had similar with car insurance and a very helpful call centre woman told me I needed to call the underwriters (and gave me the number). It doesn't matter that you said not to renew - I did it with ex insurer. It will be the equivalent of "Open" which flags as it is unresolved

I had this issue with Tesco…. My dog had been poorly on our lounge carpet, we cleaned it with a carpet cleaner however it spilled out water and we didn’t dry it properly so it has rotted 😩 insurance won’t cover it as it was remedial action (not covered) but it’s gone against my account as a claim, albeit zero value. I complained about it, but it’s in the small print 😕
