We had a new bathroom installed last week via a large national company. The work was finished absolutely fine with no problems.
I got a call from the company the day before the work was finished to advise that additional work beyond what was quoted had been required. This totalled approximately £1200. I asked them to explain what this was for. I had been in conversations with the installer during the week and the additional works required tied in with the information the installer had been giving me about what he'd had to carry out. Just to clarify at this point - this was not a scam call! I emailed the company after the phone call to get confirmation and they confirmed it was them requesting the funds, the bank details they gave me to make payment also matched the bank details I had used for them before. I then, like an idiot, made the payment to them despite having no itemised breakdown of the additional costs in writing. I have today received a letter from solicitors advising that the company has gone into administration on the day I made this additional payment. I am worried sick that my payment has gotten lost in no man's land being made on the day they went into administration, or that as there was no breakdown or formal agreement as to additional monies owed, I will be contacted again and asked for more money by the administrators!
I know I have been so stupid, please someone let me know worst case scenario :(
