Tax Credits to UC

My husband and I are splitting.

Tax Credits have stopped.

Do I need to make a claim to UC or will it automatically be done?

The website seems very vague and doesn't really explain well.

If your TC claim has ended you need to claim Universal Credit. It won't happen automatically.

I had to make a separate claim and it took 5 weeks.

5 weeks is normal. UC is calculated monthly and paid in arrears. If you claim today the month ends on 24 October, the there's a further week calculation time so as to ensure any pay etc is taken into account. You'll the be paid around the 30th of every subsequent month.
