Do you have to declare a child's savings account when you apply for universal credit. It's over £16k and was set up by her grandparents.

It depends whether it is money that is ring fenced for your child - my kids have a trust fund that even they can't touch until they reach 21 and this didn't impact universal credit when we applied . I would imagine a regular savings account probably would as you could access this money plus can be seen as deprivation of assets.

As long as it's clearly the child's money it should be disregarded.

DWP guidance says Capital owned either legally or benefcially by a dependent child or qualifying young person is not to be included in the capital of the claimant

ADM Chapter H1 para 1077

Deprivation to gain title to benefit, or increase the amount payable, is a question of intent. If the OP can show that the money came wholly from the Grandparents own resources that's not likely to be an issue.
