Insurance - have I got adequate cover?

I’m in the process of sorting out home insurance cover. It needs to be done, but I never know whether I’ve got the right cover - how much contents should I insure for? Accidental cover? Legal cover. Should I increase the cover just in case, or go for a lower cover to keep premiums down? I might add I’ve never actually claimed on house insurance.

i have similar concerns for car insurance etc.

Always get accidental cover - it's not that much.

Also have a minimal excess. Should you need to claim, you don't want to also find £500 - it doesn't up the price much.

I have contents such as phones covered to 2k each. A bike specifically named.

I don't think my contents is covered to much - 10k maybe because I could replace most of it for that. Likely second hand so could be an issue.

Always get legal cover with car insurance but it's not so essential with house insurance but for a few quid, why not.

Legal cover for your car is nearly always cheaper as a stand alone policy, rather than as an add on to your car insurance.
