Hi all, my car tax is due September 1st and I see I can get 50% reduction due to getting the Standard Rate of PIP for Mobility but does anyone know how long in takes please and is it as much of a faff as it looks? TIA

Looks relatively straight forward:

https://www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled/vehicles-and-transport

The bit that might be difficult is that the car has to be used only for the PIP claimant.

I get half rate
dvla are a complete nightmare and I ended up having to pay the full rate whilst they waited 8 weeks to check my docs and then they refunded me half back

it is a bit of a faff

Mine was easy (few years ago now as I can't drive anymore) but first time I did it at the post office as the system was down, thereafter did it online. Never had a problem.
As an aside have you looked at whatelse your entitled too? Eg bus pass, community transport, council tax reduction, blue badge etc?

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think you could do it online, it says you have to send various documents off and a cheque (don't have a cheque book) or postal order? I already have a blue badge but been looking and what other help I can get.

Yes I had to send off all my docs and a cheque

be prepared DVLA were really running behind when I did mine earlier this year. I ended up having to call them the day the tax run out and pay the full amount they then refunded half back weeks later when they finally dealt with it and did also send the docs back

good luck
