My son thought he had closed his barclays current account years ago - paid off the small overdraft. Unfortunately looks like the bank then added another overdraft fee at the end of that month and now, years later, they are trying to charge him over £75 on overdraft fees which have built up.
he has spoken to them by phone (complicated because he now lives in Malta) and because the account was originally linked to an old mobile phone he no longer has and he doesnt have a chip and pin they seem unable to do anything!
meanwhile this amount keeps growing and he is reluctant to pay them over £75 because he thought he had already closed this account years ago!
we could pay the overdraft off but worried they will add another overdraft fee before we get a chance to close the account which is what happened before!
