getting a loan

Hi, I am struggling at the moment due to vet bills, I am on universal credit and I need some help to get by at the moment. My dog was poorly and then I nearly killed my cat with the dog medicine. Long story short the PDSA is not free which is fine they are a fantastic service, the only PDSA near me is not actually near me and I had to use taxis to get there and back. I couldn't have taken my dog on 2 different buses when she was bleeding and poorly. So I have looked up provident loans and they no longer exist. I don't have anyone that I could ask for help and when my husband left me he left me with no money at all. I had £2.52 in my bank so I went and signed on and they gave me my money that day as an advance so I know I can't get help there. Please could I not have people saying I shouldn't get a loan, I have no other choice so does anyone know of anything like provident loans that will help people on PIP and UC, thanks in advance x

Also not sure of your housing situation but if a social housing tenant some HA's have schemes whereby they will give you money/fuel/food if vulnerable and in need

@Mollylegs if they are family pets can you not ask ex husband? Are you any closer to sorting house? Divorce? Joint funds? He cannot just exempt himself from joint debt. Do you have children?

I mean this kindly but anyone offering to loan you money will not have your best interests at heart in the long run.

Approach the food bank. They may be able to help you in the long term with sorting out finances eg are you overpaying direct debits. We offer this service at ours.

Thank you @Mamofteenager thankfully the operation went well, unfortunately due to lack of sleep and seeing my cat outside I had put some medicine mixed into some food but the dog didn't eat it and I fell asleep. My son must have opened his window upstairs and the cat got back in. I woke to the cat eating the dogs food with the medicine in, I rang the vets and was told she would die if I didn't get her there straight away. I was told she was very poorly and probably wouldn't survive but she did thank god. She was kept in on a drip and the charge for that was £158 plus the further £55 for bloods a week later to check her kidney function. I'm surprised the sress didn't kill me!! x

Good morning @Stomacharmeleon my ex is being a complete arsehole, the cat and the dog were his pets to for 12 years and we have a 19 year old son. He knows how much I'm struggling yet he couldn't give a monkeys. I did try asking him for help but he was on holiday, his 2nd one this year. Tbh I couldn't live with myself knowing my wife/husband was struggling so much. He found someone else and couldn't give a monkeys. He only got the solicitors letter 2 weeks ago saying I want a divorce and he went ballistic as she asked for full financial disclosure so up to now he hasn't replied to my solicitor. He's an absolute arsehole x

Hi @Stomacharmeleon my son was on a course and when his dad left he fell apart and so that was the end of that, he actually has an interview today at 2pm so fingers crossed. He has applied for so many jobs but is getting nothing back. Yes my husband is a complete shit if do say so myself. We were together fro 22 years married for 17 and he met some lovely lady who knew full well he was married and off he went. He's hardly bothered with his son which I just can not understand He's since had 2 holidays and brought himself a shiny new car, all the while I'm struggling like mad. I just need a bloody break x
