Car insurance claims

A friend of mine was in an accident. It wasn't his fault. But another person's insurance company is claiming a large amount from him. Where can he go for advice? He doesn't have much money. It's causing so much stress and worry.

His own insurance company, they deal with it.

@Cupcakequeen75 nails it I think.

This stuff is pretty normal in insurance claims. Even a party who is banged to rights driven into the back of you looking at his phone can try to wriggle off the hook.

If your friend thinks his insurer is going to roll over too easily and go 50/50 or whatever then Citizens Advice would probably be a good starting point.

OK thanks. Should they be dealing with his insurance directly? It seems they've just sent the letter requesting payment to him. Seems a bit weird

Has your friend reported the accident to his insurance? If so, he need to call his insurance and tell them about the letter he's received.
Part of your friends policy includes his insurers handling the claim - even if he was at fault, his insurance would be covering the claim, not your friend so everything should be going straight to his insurer.

Lcw29 · 18/07/2023 14:01

Yes he told them straight away. I will pass that on. Thanks

I would expect the other party's insurer to deal with that of your friend.

Certainly that's been the case with my own claims - at fault or not.

Anything that comes to your friend needs sending straight to the insurer.

Sunshineclouds11 · 18/07/2023 14:20

If your friends told his insurance company he needs to send any correspondence that he's getting from the other insurers to his straight away.
They will deal. The other insurance company should know this tbh.

What does he think his insurance is for?
Did he read his policy documents?

My mind boggles how someone can decide on insurance and the level of cover they need if they have no idea what it does when you have an accident?

Never been involved with serving or advising the public then?

😂

Fair point. I work in IT, I have plenty of spectacularly incompetent "users".

I think it's more that in all his life he's never had an accident . Never claimed anything. He thought this was all dealt with already as it was months ago. I think he just felt really threatened by it. He's not young and I feel they are preying on that
