How best to sell commemorative coins

Hello, wondering if anyone has any advice on this rather niche subject. I recently was gifted quite a large amount of gold and silver coins that I have no idea what to do with.

Its a real mixed bag. Many are from the royal mint, some are from very old, some are modern for bbc tv shows like Dr Who.

I've been told some commemorative coins are really only worth the metal in them and you may as well sell directly to the royal mint while some will be worth extra but how on earth do you know?

I'm obviously incredibly grateful but at a total loss on where to begin. When you go online there are hundreds of sell your gold websites which frankly all look more than a little shifty to me. I would be eternally grateful for any top tips or personal experience.

This site gives some indication online of what it will pay for individual coins.
You can use it as a starting point to compare to other sites.
