Hi, I'm trying not to be blinded by panic and thought I'd come on here to seek advice.

I've been claiming UTC , self employed, have to submit monthly accounts.
For various boring reasons, I had not yet completed this months accounts but thought as long as I did it by the end of the month this would be fine. That's what I did last month.

Mainly because I'm struggling to cope with workloads and working all hours.
I just logged on to submit my accounts and see that just after I submitted last month's accounts, there was a request to 'accept the commitments in your to do list'.

I failed to see this. I know, I know.

I was counting on this money to go towards my mortgage payment, due out tonight. I literally don't know what to do.

I know how stupid I have been , I wish so much I had paid more attention to that journal.

I suppose what I am asking, is there anything I can say that would cause them to cancel the 'stop' or will I really have to reapply and lost this months credit.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom or experience.

I'm sorry to post again, I am so so desperate and on my own with this. If there is any advice anyone could offer I would so appreciate it right now, I just don't know what to do... 😞

I can't help but bumping for you in case anyone knows

Nonametonight · 29/06/2023 23:07

You can do a rapid reclaim which should allow you to keep the same assessment period and payment dates. You need to check your journal at least once a week

Thank you so much FirstTimeNameChanger

My gut instinct is that your bank will be more helpful and faster to respond than universal credit, can you message them now or call in the morning? Or apply online for an overdraft facility to cover the mortgage while you sort it out with UC?

Thank you Nonametonight, this is just the kind of thing I was hoping for, that gives me hope I can call them with some firm request rather than just go all panicked and desperate on them. I really appreciate that and of course believe me when I say I will be treating this with a lot more importance in future. I have been very foolish.

You need to do a reclaim ASAP but you will probably have to have another Gateway Intervention appointment before your claim starts again. You really need to be reporting your income and expenses as soon as the to-do generates at the end of your assessment period. Was there a change in your circumstances that generated the new commitment?

Thank you also ademanlu. No, no change in my circumstances, each month I provide my accounts and it's all standard stuff but every now and then I need to 'accept my commitments' which I seem to recall was only ever that I had to click to confirm I'd report my income.

I allowed myself to stretch submitting new accounts out to the end of the month and I am endlessly kicking myself for this of course.

Their request to accept my commitments came right after I last submitted my accounts so I've missed their message by a month.

I realise how wishy washy I will sound saying I didn't see it as I know I should have been checking. It's just that it wasn't actually about anything in particular, - I realise I'm wording that badly. This is exactly why I'm worried I will come across to them as though I am insinuating their system is unimportant to me.

I wish SO much I'd taken a moment to check it. I am kicking myself so so hard.
