Refund paid into account I don't recognise

I'm looking for any pointers!

I bought a tap 3 years ago and it broke. Amazingly It is still under warranty and the company quickly said they'd refund me. The refund never arrived so i called and asked them what bank it went to/what was the payment method. They said they couldn't tell me and just gave me the last 4 card digits.

I don't recognise the card digits at all. I have checked all my bank statements and can't find the refund or - weirdly - the original payment to the company.

The money must have come out of the account I closed last year. I now can't log in to check.

The company just said they've refunded me and can't do anything more.

Is there anything I can do?

I'd contact the bank where you had that account. If the payment can't be applied because the account is closed, they should be able to tell you what they did with it (returning it to the retailer I would have thought). Hopefully they can confirm that you had a card with those digits too.
