Child Benefit - paid after birthdate

Hello,

I’ve called HMRC this morning but received a message that their lines are unavailable with no way to leave a message or speak to an employee. I applied for child benefit within 3 months of my DDs birth.

The award letter goes from a date 6 days after she was born. So if for e.g. she was born on the 25th, the letter says child benefit is payable from the 31st.

Please could anyone advise if there are standard waiting days or whether it’s likely to be an error?

Thank you.

CB is paid from the Monday after the child’s birth date. So if your baby was born on a Tuesday then you would receive CB from the following Monday

Why would that even matter for the sake of 6 days? You think you’ve missed out on £4 or whatever?

fuckmyuteruslining · 02/06/2023 12:14

Yes it's the Monday thing

Wow how do you even how time for a phone call for something so minor?

Readyplayerthr33 · 02/06/2023 12:47

You actually sat on the phone to HMRC for that?

nahwhale · 02/06/2023 12:50

Don't be harsh she's clearly desperate for money.

It will be the Monday after they are born.

Danikm151 · 02/06/2023 12:50

It’s paid from the Monday following.

Koalaslippers · 02/06/2023 12:57

If someone isn't aware of the Monday after rule then I can understand questioning whether there is a mistake.

ChickenMacaroni · 02/06/2023 13:47

Yep was she born on a Tuesday OP? The first Monday after birth should be the date on the letter, they can't qualify on any other day than a Monday (which is when CB is paid, weekly or four-weekly)

Thank you to those who wrote helpful replies. A shame some felt the need to be rude.
