Summer holiday for a family

Hello all,
I am looking to book my first summer holiday abroad for my family of five and am shocked at the price as this is the first time I've booked something during peak school holiday season. I'm wondering what everybody spends for school summer holidays. And what sites etc people use.

I used to book for the last week in August, camping in France. The last week of August is not as expensive as the rest of the summer holidays - as the price drops around the 21st.

You can either go to an already erected tent for 5 and just take your bedding etc or purchase/borrow camping equipment and take with you.

Places to go would be the Vendee/ southern Brittany and get ferry from Portsmouth or Poole and head for cherbourg or st Malo - as less miles the other side.

The advantage of travelling on a Monday is the ferry may well be cheaper on a Sunday than on a Friday or Saturday

With ferry and ready camping when you get there, you'd be looking at under £2000k including petrol, ferry and tent hire

Campsite les Écureuils in the Vendee in France is very close to the beach and has a swimming paradise! Everyone will enjoy a holiday here!

Or self catering in Spain from any midlands airport is under £2000k on Thursday 24 August for 7 days (the children ages for this I used 8,10,12)

ive said under £2k as you'll probably have to pay for luggage and any seating on plane separately so it'll take the price from £1643 up to £2000. If you can pack light into 2 suitcases etc its keep the price lower
