Credit card sold to debt collection

I have a barclycard which I've been paying off correctly except for one missed payment which I then made. I have been in hospital a number of months. My credit score is know incredibly low. Is there anyway to depute this as it was one missed payment ?

It is highly unusual for a debt to be passed to a Collection Agency after one missed payment. Are you sure that it was only one? Or were you on a repayment plan anyway and then missed one of those?

My advice is call or email the collection agency right away to explain your circumstances. They will be able to help and cannot leave you without funds to pay priority bills, they really can't and don't want to go down the line of enforcement as it costs money.

Chances are it may be pre dca activity and you'll have a certain number of days to catch up. Its just system generated as they didn't know you were in hospital.

If you are struggling, ask them for breathing space and that'll give you about a month to get it sorted. If after a month you're unable to pay, its a good idea to contact a debt management agency. Breathing space only applies if its gone to an agency for debt collection, if its pre collections its payment in full, or a set plan may be available.

Honestly, its not bad. Collections agencies are staffed by normal people who just happen to have that type of job. There'll be no judgement or unreasonable requests.

Oh and if you paid late, it can take a couple of extra days to process due to bank hols. If it didn't hit the account as expected, a letter might have gone out before your payment went through.
