The Tax Advisory Group - Scam or?

Has anyone else had any experience of The Tax Advisory Group? I claimed back nearly £2k from HMRC through TAG for overpaid tax and the money has been sent to them but I cannot get hold of the company. There's only one telephone number and that's not being answered. I'm panicking now! I've done a Google search for them and there's not much online....😭

I had a Google and the website I found for tax advisory group showed they were actually a trading name for Reclaim my PPI. So I wonder if they’ve done a fake PPI claim instead. Either way doesn’t look great, why are you owed so much PAYE? Usually emergency tax codes are sorted out within a few months and why overpaid tax is refunded so unlikely to be that.

The website I found at https://www.taxadvisorygroup.co.uk/about-us/
seems to be for specific tax rebates like savings taxes or marriage tax allowance - not PAYE. Where did you send your info, op?

I work in tax compliance and I can't speak to individual claim's but please never deal with these types of Companies . If you have a concern you can be sure that HMRC will let you know if you are due a refund just as they would if you owe them. You can check your tax code is correct on government gateway, if you are self employed your accountant should be making sure you are claiming everything you are entitled to.

I too have had a refund cheque sent to this company by HMRC but have received absolutely nothing .
I was told to report it to action fraud ( Police) but apparently they have no leads to follow.
At a loss as to what to do now.

So sorry to see some posters have been caught up in this. I hope you are able to get your money back.

For future reference, private companies will not have access to any of your tax information. Only HMRC has that and you have to actively appoint an agent if you want one. Only after you’ve given authorisation to HMRC will that agent have access.

There are a number of free tax calculators online to check your tax if you aren’t confident.

BBC's Money Box programme has been all over this issue for a couple of years now. Some of these outfits are outright scammers, you never see a penny and they're off like ships in the night, others just deduct a fat fee for stuff most people can do for themselves.

AIUI these outfits get you to sign up and in doing so you appoint them as your agent for tax purposes. HMRC take, or at least were taking, those appointments at face value and in good faith. That included making it difficult to revoke the authority; you had to get the agent to withdraw.

@Bromptotoo - I am surprised that it was difficult to remove them, you should just be able to call/write and ask them to remove the agent. Although I am aware HMRC have “helpfully” closed their phone lines currently.

That, I think, reflects the position now but as the LITG link provided by a PP makes clear historically it was more problematic.

With regards to the tax advisor group ltd, I’ve just managed to speak to a lady who told me I’m on this week s check list and should get my money next week ( I’m not holding my breath but it’s the first time I’ve managed to speak to anyone) address is ppitaxadvisory.Co.uk

Received a cheque from Tax Reclaim Solutions Ltd for £673.23 lodged in my account, to find the Bank returned the cheque to company, tried contacting the company but recorded message said: Owing to the volume of calls, all our agents are busy, try ringing back. No joy getting hold of these people

hi this company is scam they recover my money from hmrc 6 months ago now and they still have my check I have tried to contact them manny time but there is no answer over the phone I have emailed them but they just ignored you I suggest this company not to use they are big scam
